OSPREY TODAY: NCAA Regional Debut for Men's Golf in D1 Era

THIS DAY IN OSPREY HISTORY:
North Florida men's golf made its debut in NCAA DI postseason play when the Ospreys teed it up at the NCAA East Regional in Barrington, Rhode Island on May 20-22, 1999.UNF's golf history was strong having claimed the 1993 NAIA National Championship along with a pair of runner-up NCAA Championship finishes at the DII level in 1994 and 1997. However this marked the program's first qualification as a Division I team and opened up a span of four consecutive NCAA Regional appearances.
The squad, which was eventually enshrined in the UNF Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017, was coached by UNF Hall of Famer, John Brooks, and led on the course by UNF Hall of Famer, David Bennett, and former PGA Tour player, Matt Borchert. Current North Florida head coach Scott Schroeder was also a member of the 1998-99 team.
The Ospreys finished 15th in their inaugural NCAA Regional appearance, posting a score of 883. Bennett was the team's top finisher earning a T37 with a score of 6-over 219.
