Montano Moves Up in ITA Singles Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior Lucia Montano moved up to a No. 98 ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tuesday after sweeping opponents Friday and Monday.

The Santa Cruz, Bolivia, native started the spring season ranked No. 112 in the ITA 2019 Final Fall Singles Rankings, moved to No. 99 Feb. 18 and picked up ASUN Player of the Week Honor Feb. 19.

Montano garnered player of the week honors twice as a junior and once as a sophomore. In 2018 she was named to the ASUN All-Conference Singles Second Team. She has helped the Ospreys to back-to-back-to-back ASUN Championships (2017, 2018 & 2019).

The senior won in straight sets against Georgia Southern's Paula Boixader 6-2, 6-1 Friday. She then swept Martina Kudelova of FAU 6-2, 6-2 Monday, helping the Ospreys beat the Owls for the first time since 2009. The senior is 7-2 this season at the top singles slot.

UNF women's tennis travels to Kennesaw to play Penn State Saturday, March 7.
