Onix Ortiz, Freshman

What's your major?
Exercise science is my major.

What's your dream career?
My dream career is physical therapy.
Â
In 10 years, where do you want to be?
I would like to be working as a physical therapist, hopefully living somewhere near the beach.

Why do you play this sport?
I play this sport because once I realized I was talented at it I wanted to see how far I could go in it. I am also really competitive and enjoy the competitive aspect of the sport.

Do you have a favorite moment in your playing career?
I have multiple: when I won a conference event as a freshman, districts as a sophomore and qualifying to nationals that same year, as well as the first time I broke 16 mins in the 5k as a senior.

Who/what inspires you?
My family is definitely my main source of motivation, I want to make sure I make them proud in return for all of the sacrifices they have made for me.

What is something about you that people wouldn't expect?
I'm typically outgoing.
Â
What's your proudest achievement?
Making a DI collegiate team.
Â
What's the most valuable piece of advice you have received?
Focus on the present and try to take things a day at a time in order to avoid stress in sports as well as in school and in life.

Chocolate covered almonds.

Pre-game music?
Rap mostly.

Favorite hobby?
Basketball.

What does it mean to be a student-athlete?
It means more responsibility outside the classroom as well as more expectations placed upon you by peers, coaches, and professors.
