
Chicago Cubs Nab Deppermann in the Seventh Round of the MLB Draft

Righty Becomes the Fourth-Highest UNF Pitcher Drafted, and 50th Osprey Selected in MLB Draft
SECAUCUS, N.J. - Redshirt-senior Brad Deppermann had a special year reach new heights as he was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs Tuesday afternoon. The righty was nabbed as the 222nd overall pick in the June draft, making him the fourth-highest draft pick among UNF pitchers in program history.Â
"I couldn't be more thankful for how things turned out," Brad Deppermann said. "I wouldn't be here without the support from my UNF family. My time at UNF has taught me so much and has prepared me for the journey to come. I'm very excited to see what the future holds for me, and I thank all of those who have been by my side along the way."
Deppermann is the seventh-highest overall selection out of UNF in the program's DI history and the 17th Osprey selected in the first ten rounds of the draft. Deppermann also goes down as the 23rd UNF hurler to go in school history and the 50th North Florida player tabbed in the MLB draft.

The graduate of East Lake High School earned the distinction as the first pitcher in school history to be named ASUN Pitcher of the Year, picking up ASUN Preseason All-Conference and ASUN First Team All-Conference honors in 2019.
Deppermann was twice named ASUN Pitcher of the Week in 2019 after going 6-5 with a 2.46 ERA, 108 strikeouts and a .217 opponents' batting average across 95 frames of effort. The redshirt-senior finished second in the ASUN in innings pitched, tied-for-third in games started, first in punchouts, third in strikeouts-per-nine innings and second in ERA.
This past season Deppermann became the UNF DI record holder in the following categories:

Fittingly, out of high school the Palm Harbor, Fla., native was selected in the 31st round by the Chicago Cubs in the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
