UNF Scores Tying Run in Seventh, Winning Run in the Eighth

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Both starting pitchers dueled but had no-decisions to show for it as UNF (17-15, 3-4 ASUN) came out on top against Jacksonville (19-11, 5-2 ASUN) thanks to a late push and a strong bullpen, 3-2, in game one of the River City Rumble Friday, April 5, at Harmon Stadium.

Behind the Line Score

UNF cut down JU at home in a wild play in the first inning. Dakota Julylia legged out an infield single with one away before an errant pickoff attempt from Brad Deppermann allowed him to reach third. The throw back into the infield escaped towards the dugout, but Chris Berry corralled it and retired Julylia at home.
Abraham Sequera, Blake Marabell and Chris Berry worked walks to start the third. Jay Prather plated Sequera on an RBI groundout, pushing Marabell and Berry up 90 feet. Tanner Murphy was intentionally walked on a 3-0 count, but Austin Hurwitz rolled into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
The Dolphins evened it up at one in the fifth. Jacob Southern walked, Cory Garrastazu singled to right and Reagan Wright delivered a two-out single to left center. Deppermann got out of the inning after getting Julylia to fly out to Weeks in deep right.
Deppermann nearly worked around Southern's leadoff double in the seventh, but JU was able to eek out the go-ahead score. Deppermann retired the first Dolphin on a sac bunt and coaxed a groundout to Sequera, completed by a nice pick at first by Alex Reynolds. JU scored on the next play though. Wright capped a grounder just past Deppermann to a charging Prather in front of the second base bag. Prather's throw on the run was to the right of Reynolds, scoring Southern.
Blake Marabell's clutch two-RBI single in the seventh tied it again at two apiece. David Maberry started a two-out rally with a single through the left side and was pinch ran for by Grant Grodi. Sequera singled up the middle and Marabell stroked the game-tying single through the left side of the infield.
UNF pushed the game winner across in the bottom of the eighth. Murphy catalyzed the inning with a leadoff walk. Hurwitz bunted him over right before Wes Weeks lined out to third. Reynolds came through with another clutch hit for the Ospreys, scoring Murphy with a single through the right side.
Trace Norkus entered for Miller in the ninth. The senior fanned one, coaxed a groundout and worked around a two-out walk before retiring Wright with a can of corn to left.
