STARTING BLOCK
The North Florida men's track team hosted their final regular season home meet of the season and the day was highlighted by an event title from freshman Jaasiel Torres along with a handful of personal best marks.
Â
AROUND THE TRACK
- Junior George Escobar clocked a PR in the 800m, running a 1:51 to finish second in the event and lead a group of four straight Osprey finishers. Escobar was followed by Timothy Doyle (1:51), Chris Robin (1:53) and Jared Vazquez (1:53).
- Christian Conder had a near PR in the 1500m (3:55.14) finishing fourth with freshman Nathan Jubran close behind in fifth 3:55.56
FROM THE FIELD
- Freshman Jaasiel Torres claimed the high jump title and matched his outdoor PR mark of 2.06m (6-09.00)
- Freshman Austin Thompson posted a lifetime best mark in the pole vault, earning a mark of 4.90m (16-0.75) | Thompson also collected a PR mark in the long jump at 6.82m (22-4.50)
UP NEXT:
North Florida takes a week off from competition before returning to the action on Apr. 19-20 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta.
COACH JEFF PIGG SAYS:
"It was a nice day as we honored our seniors. Many of them have shaped our culture in this DI Era. This group meant a lot to our department and elevated our program to new heights."
"The 800m was a good race for the guys today. George Escobar did what we have come to expect and that is to run hard and finish fast. He had another PR and freshman Timothy Doyle and Jared Vazquez both ran well too. All three should thank Chris Robin for establishing a fast pace that made them earn their personal bests. Chris really stepped up and ran another good 800. Christian Conder had a breakthrough 1500m. His training is going well and now his confidence is rising which is leading him to quality races. He did a great job today. It was also good to see Jaasiel follow-up a strong performance at Florida Relays, matching that height today and winning the high jump event at our home meet."
