Right Fielder Earns First Career ASUN Weekly Laurel
ATLANTA - Redshirt-senior Wes Weeks made UNF history Thursday at North Alabama as part of a monster week, earning the right fielder ASUN Co-Player of the Week laurels as announced by the league office Monday, April 22.
UNF has earned a league-best six weekly honors this season. Six different players have received weekly recognition and for the first time since 2015 the Ospreys have earned at least three ASUN Player of the Week honors in one season.
Weeks launched three roundtrippers in a 10-4 defeat of UNA Thursday, April 18, becoming the first player in the program's Division I history to hit three home runs in one game. Ironically, the same day brother and former UNF standout, Drew Weeks, hit a home run for Triple - A Albuquerque. The last time a UNF player hit three homers in one game was when Ryan Soehlig completed the feat April 24, 2002, against Valdosta State.
The Green Cove Springs, Fla., native went 6-for-9 against UNA, scoring three times, driving in seven and notching two stolen bases for a team-high 13. He also picked up an RBI in a 5-3 defeat of USF Tuesday, April 16.
Up Next
Weeks and the Ospreys will be off during the week before getting back on the diamond for a three-game series against FAMU. First pitch of game one is set for 4:05 p.m. Saturday, April 27.
