Righty Posts First 9.0 - Inning Complete Game Since Frank German of Last Year

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Brad Deppermann had his own career high last night, and the next day fellow righty Nick Marchese had his own. Marchese befuddled the NJIT (11-17-1, 3-8 ASUN) bats Saturday, spinning a complete game while allowing just one earned run on four hits. UNF (20-16, 6-5 ASUN) had a five-run outburst in the fifth, carrying Marchese to the 5-2 win April 13 from Harmon Stadium.

The Plantation, Fla., native fanned six in the career-long outing. It was the first 9.0 - inning complete game spun by an Osprey pitcher since Frank German turned in the feat against Kennesaw State in the 2018 ASUN Championship May 22 of last season.

Behind the Line Score

NJIT took advantage of an error to go ahead in the top of the third, 1-0. Nick Hussey rolled a grounder to Chris Berry, although a high throw allowed him to reach and advance to second. Michael Anastasia sent one into left center and legged out an RBI double, scoring Hussey.
UNF got to Stafflinger in the fifth, taking the 5-1 lead after batting around.
David Maberry laced a single to left but was retired on a fielder's choice off the bat of Abraham Sequera. The shortstop stole second and scored on an RBI double to left center from Blake Marabell. Berry advanced Marabell to third with a groundout to second before Jay Prather gave UNF the lead on a one-hop smash that Hussey couldn't handle at first, scoring Marabell. Tanner Murphy completed a great at-bat with a blistering RBI double into the left field corner, scoring Marabell. Wes Weeks turned on a pitch for an RBI single to left, scoring Murphy, and Reynolds hooked his own base knock to right to plate Tanner Clark.
Julio Marcano helped NJIT out in the sixth, blasting a solo shot to straight away left in the sixth, cutting it to 5-2.
The Ospreys threatened in the seventh and eighth, but NJIT stayed within striking distance.
NJIT made it interesting in the ninth. Back-to-back singles put Highlanders on first and second. Lefty designated hitter Jared Donnelly fouled six pitches off until the 11th pitch of the at-bat and the 100th toss of the game from Marchese landed in Sequera's mit for the 27th out.
