Howard Ties Miller’s UNF Wins Record Before Rain Pushes Matches to Tomorrow

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - North Florida swept Saint Leo before downing UNC - Wilmington to go 2-0 on the opening day of the UNF Invitational. The Ospreys' match against (RV) Charleston as well as two neutral matches were pushed to tomorrow as a result of inclement weather.

How it Happened:

The Ospreys didn't even need an hour to dispatch the Lions (1-4). All five pairs earned sweeps making it the third time that the Ospreys have won in such a fashion this season.
UNF took down a tough UNC - Wilmington (1-1) team in the second match of the day, 4-1.
Callie Workman and Dana Roskic got UNF on the board with back-to-back 21-16 victories.
Marisa Rogers and Carleigh Semeniuk grinded out a 21-19 first-set win before cruising past the Seahawks in the second, 21-11.
Chaney Howard and Antonia Harrison clinched the match for the Ospreys, winning 21-18 and 22-20. The pair trailed in the second set before coming back to earn the win.
Pairs two and three went to three sets. Madilyn McCarty and Brittany Pase fell behind a set before turning a close comeback win with 21-9 and 15-13 scores.
Nicole DeBolt and Jessi Freeman nearly did the same before falling 15-11 in the final frame of slot three.

Up Next:
Play resumes at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow with College of Charleston and Saint Leo. UNF will take on Charleston at 10:30 a.m., while UNC - Wilmington and Saint Leo close out duals play.

The structure of the Pairs Tournament will be decided according to time available following duals.

Notes:

Senior Chaney Howard now has 61 career wins, tied with Courtney Miller for the most all-time in UNF history.
UNF is 4-1 all-time against UNC - Wilmington and 1-0 against Saint Leo.
This is the first time UNF has hosted the invitational at Jacksonville Beach since 2013.
Three different pairs improved to 5-1 on the season.
