Junior Hits .364 with Two Home Runs During the Week
ATLANTA, Ga. - Junior Tanner Murphy had himself quite a week. The center fielder hit. 364 (8-for-22), notched two home runs and slugged .774 as the Ospreys went 3-2, including a 7-1 victory at No. 3 Florida.
The ASUN Preaseason All-Conference selection began his big week with a bang, clubbing a 3-2 pitch over the left field bleachers at Florida's Alfred A. McKethan Stadium, putting UNF up 3-0. He would make a huge play with his glove a few innings later, hunting down a deep fly ball on the warning track with two on and two out in the fifth inning.
The St. Augustine, Fla., native went 7-for-18 against the Fordham Rams over the weekend, completing a combined cycle in UNF's doubleheader on Saturday. Murphy scored a team-high seven runs for the week, swiping four bags while securing 18 putouts in the outfield.
It's the first weekly laurel of Murphy's career. He was an ASUN All-Conference First Team choice a year ago.
Tanner Trio:
Tanner May, Tanner Clark and Tanner Murphy have all been in the same starting lineup four different times this season. On Wednesday at Florida the Ospreys got home runs out of Tanner May and Tanner Murphy, the only time in UNF history that two different Tanners have homered in the same game. The Tanner-trio is hitting a combined .321 (26-81) this season.
Up Next:
The Ospreys complete a six-game home stand when they host Florida Atlantic Tuesday and Wednesday.
