Pigg's Points (Comments from Head Coach Jeff Pigg)
"We had a lot of lifetime and seasons best when it really counted here at the championship meet. We're a young team and fairly small but they lined up and fought hard. Â Proud of their efforts and look forward to even better days ahead."
"Sonja executed a great race today in the 800m. It was a lifetime 800 best by more than a second and her time broke a school record set in 2004 and was also a facility record. She trains hard and is on a mission to be great. She is aggressive and today she executed a great race plan for the win. Skye Zeller also ran a nice race as she led wire-to-wire in the second heat and finished with her best 800 time ever. She was focused and ran a very good race."Â
"In the 5000m, freshman Camryn Cooney, fresh off of her 3000m from Friday night came back strong and ran a great race. It was a big personal best and a breakthrough race for her. She is a tough competitor and is now settling into college life and competition and it was nice to see her get a podium finish. Senior Audrey Carpenter finished off her 3000/5000 double by earning 6th place with a personal best 5000 as well. Both of them ran two long races and it takes a special mentality to be willing to compete for 40 laps indoors. Audrey has done so much to shape our culture with her unselfish and caring attitude. It was rewarding to see her last indoor lap be one where she kicked hard and earned the final scoring spot in the 5000."
"High jump freshman Kaley Petrosky placed fourth with a season best. It was her college PR and a strong finish in the field of 16. She really adjusted well to this big college field and stepped up when it counted. She is gonna be a good one"
"All three runners had lifetime bests in the 400m led by senior Crystal Liebenberg who ran 56.5. She has been through two years of battling to get healthy and has worked very hard so it was nice to see her get to enjoy competing at a high level once again. Jade Sullivan and Jen Brunson also ran strong races."Â
"The final race of the day was a very exciting one. Crystal Liebenberg had a stellar lead leg that pushed us to the front. Sonja Andenmatten followed and kept the stick in the the front. Jade Sullivan maintained the pace with a strong third leg before handing off to Skye Zeller, who closed strong and earned a podium finish. The girls were tired but fought hard for a good finish."
