JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Florida women's tennis team has announced its 2020 spring schedule featuring 12 home matches and seven road contests.
OPENING HOME STAND
The Ospreys begin the season January 17, welcoming Florida A&M and Flagler. North Florida has a stretch of away matches before returning home February 21 to host Florida Atlantic.
STRONG OPPONENTS
The Ospreys will play Florida, Florida State, and South Alabama on the road, with all three having participated in the 2019 NCAA Championships. South Alabama won their 18th conference title last season and both Florida and Florida State advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Dates of UNF's three matches against 2019 NCAA Tournament teams:
- Florida State, February 7
- South Alabama, February 8
- Florida, February 14
FIRST MEETING
UNF hosts Navy in the first-ever meeting between the Ospreys and the Midshipmen. Navy recently had its first player to be nationally ranked by the ITA in the Final Fall ITA rankings. Navy's Samantha Choi was ranked 114th overall, just two places behind Lucia Montano.Â
ASUN PLAY
The Ospreys open conference play March 26th in Florence, Ala., as they face North Alabama. They then travel to Nashville to compete against Lipscomb March 28th, with all seven of the final matches against ASUN foes.Â
The Ospreys conclude the season with five home matches to start April. The 2020 ASUN Championship is set for April 24-26 in Lynchburg, Va.
GETTING TO KNOW THE OSPREYS
UNF is the five-time defending ASUN Tournament Champions after downing FGCU, 4-3, in the title match last April. The Ospreys return six letterwinners, losing only two from last year's squad. Freshman Lea Grinberg and Kennesaw State transfer in sophomore Kendall Nash are the lone newcomers for UNF.
DUNAGAN'S DETAILS
"I'm really excited for the spring season to get here. This is what we've been training for. We have a great schedule with some tough opponents that will prepare us for conference play. I'm looking forward to playing a lot of instate rivals and challenging our players to reach their goals this season. It will be an exciting one as my first season being an Osprey. SWOOP!" --Head coach Catherine Dunagan
