Stetson vs UNF Final Boxscore
JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida women's soccer squad opened ASUN Conference play with a 1-1 draw in double overtime against Stetson on Friday night at Hodges Stadium.Â
GOALS
UNF - 37' Andrea Sanchez (Assist: Lorena Cedeno)
STET - 79' Lindsey Parent (Assst: Hailey Williams)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The match started with a flurry of scoring chances in the first several minutesÂ
- Julie Martin nearly netted the first tally in the second minute, as a perfectly played through ball from Thais Reiss hit her in stride setting up a 1-v-1 situation with the Stetson keeper, who made an outstanding save to keep UNF off the board
- A minute later, a turnover by the Ospreys just outside the box set up a scoring chance for the Hatters but Rhiannon Conelley collected the first of her four saves on the night to maintain the scoreless stalmate
- Krista Colubiale saw her screaming shot from the top of the box turned away by a diving save from the Hatter's netminder in the fourth minute of play
- In the eighth minute, Kendra Hoffman gathered a pass from Lisa Cedeno on the right side and carried it into the box before sliding her shot attempt just wide of the left post
- Stetson saw their chance for the first score carom off the crossbar in the 26th minute of play
- Andrea Sanchez finally found the back of the net for the Ospreys in the 37th minute, when Lisa Cedeno dropped a pass back to her from the top of the box and she sent a rocket from 25 yards out that slammed through the SU keeper's hands just under the crossbar
- The second half featured lots of back-and-forth play for much of the frame
- The Hatters eventually netted the equalizer in the 79th minute. Lindsey Parent made a run through the middle, tracking down a pass from Hailey Williams and hitting a low shot just past the outstretched hands of Conelley
- North Florida posted the best chance at the game winner in overtime when Reiss sent a pass that found and open Hoffman on the backside, but her shot hit the post and deflected harmlessly away
QUICK KICKS
- Andrea Sanchez became the 12th different Osprey to score a goal this season
- Lorena Cedeno picked up her first assist of the year
- Thais Reiss led the Ospreys with 7 shot attempts in the contest
- The draw marked UNF's first tie of the season and first since a scoreless draw with Kennesaw State in last year's ASUNÂ Tournament | It was the 3rd tie of the season for Stetson
- UNF outshot SU, 21-11, including 10-5 advantage in shots on goal
- Stetson keeper Maggie Beatty recorded 9 saves in her first start of the year
- The tie extends North Florida's undefeated streak to six matchesÂ
- UNF moves to 5-3-1 (0-0-1 ASUN) on the season while Stetson sits at 3-4-3 (0-0-1 ASUN)
CONFER COMMENTS
"I think tonight was a tale of two halves. We came out early and created three good chances and were eventually able to capitalize on one later in the first half. The second half we weren't as sharp and Stetson was able to gain a bit more possession and got the equalizer. The margin of victory in the conference is very slim and we felt like we created enough to get a win, but at the end of the day, you have to finish chances to win games." - Head coach Robin Confer
