STARTING BLOCK
The North Florida Men's Track & Field team closed out competition Saturday at the Georgia Tech Invitational led by a school record from Nick Morken and an event title by Bobby Harris.Â
Â
AROUND THE TRACK
- Junior Nick Morken followed up his school record 1500m race on Friday with another school record setting performance in the 800m on Saturday posting a time of 1:48. Morken finished second in the eventÂ
Â
ON THE FIELD
- Senior high jumper Bobby Harris made his outdoor season debut, earning the event title with a mark of 2.10m (6-10.75). His height was the best in the ASUN this season. Freshman Damian Lewis bettered his collegiate PR with a mark of 2.00m (6-06.75)
Comments from Coach Pigg:
"This was a great trip for our team. They competed well and continued to grow as a team. They really support one another and take pride in doing so. We had a lot to be proud of this week. Now it's time to focus on closing out the semester with a strong finals week performance."
"Bobby Harris opened with a strong mark in winning the high jump. Bobby's mark will get him into the East Regional and he did it off of a very short approach. Coach Krupa has been very conservative with training so Bobby would be fresh and healthy as we head into championship season. This was a perfect way to open and there is a lot more to come in the next few weeks. Damian Lewis improved his collegiate best with another strong showing. Nick Morken had a great double this weekend. His 1:48 drops the school record PR and regional qualifying mark in the 800m. He ran tough again today following up a strong 1500m last night. This weekend was the best double of his stellar career. I'm proud of how he raced."
