Make It Five in a Row! Women's Soccer Downs LIU
9/3/2017 2:52:00 PM | Women's Soccer
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Freshman Thais Reiss scored her second game-winning goal of the season as North Florida women's soccer won its fifth straight game in a row with a 2-1 win against LIU Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon at Hodges Stadium.
Â
GOALS
UNF: 3' – Krista Colubiale (Thaiss Reiss)
UNF: 24' – Thais Reiss (Sarah Wasser, Mackenzie Meisler)
LIU: 24' – Jenn Peters (Unassisted)
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
CONFER'S CORNER
"I am proud of the effort that the girls have been putting in every single game and this team finds ways to win. I credit LIU. They brought in some energy and put on the pressure and had a good fight. I am happy the way the girls responded to score two goals early which was nice. We gave up a soft goal, but we regrouped and had a good second half. We could have finished a few more, but on a Sunday afternoon, in the heat, I will take the 2-1 win and now get ready for a good week of training."
Â
NOTEABLES
- The five-match win streak is the program's longest since 2006.
- North Florida is now just one win away from matching last season's total and two victories from a record number under coach Robin Confer.
- The Ospreys outshot LIU, 20-9 with 11 shots on target.
- Freshman keeper Megan Virgin recorded nine saves in the loss.
Â
UP NEXT
UNF now heads out on the road to take on Furman and Wofford on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The Ospreys have just one more non-conference home game before entering ASUN action.

Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Florida (5-1) did not waste time in the opening minutes of the game and pressured the LIU (0-4-1) zone.
- Thaiss Reiss sent a perfect corner kick towards the center of the net where it connected with Colubiale's head to send it to the back of the net.
- The Ospreys struck again in the 24th minute when senior Sarah Wasser dribbled up the left side of the field to the corner where she found the feet of Mackenzie Meisler.
- Meisler then sent a short cross towards the box where Reiss kicked the ball past the LIU keeper for the 2-0 lead.
- It was short lived as off the kick off LIU pushed up the field and used a disorganized UNF defense to its advantage when Jenn Peters found a gap to go one-on-one with Rhiannon Connelley. Peters found a gap in the lower left corner to make it a 2-1 game.
- The goal ended Conelley's scoreless streak of 262 minutes. She made four saves in her fifth straight win.
- In the second half, the Ospreys poured on the offense with 11 shots to the Blackbirds' three, but came up empty.
