NORTH FLORIDA HIGHLIGHTS

• The 2017 season marked the program's best record since the 2011 season as UNF posted a 9-6-1 mark.
• Freshman Thais Reiss was named the ASUN Freshman of the Year as she was the first rookie since 2010 to record six goals in a season. She also earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region accolades.
• During her tenure, Confer has guided the Ospreys to four consecutive ASUN Conference Tournament appearances, including the program’s first home postseason contest since 2010 in her first year.
• After three ASUN wins in 2014, the Ospreys saw five players earn all-conference honors, including three listed on the league’s all-freshman team.
• In the classroom, her teams have earned three Team Academic Awards annually presented by the National Collegiate Soccer Association of America.
• Jennifer Marzi became the first Osprey to take home Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference, NSCAA Academic All-Region and Capital One Academic All-District honors in the same season.

PRIOR TO UNF

Confer came to UNF following a nine-year stint as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Georgia. The 1997 National Player of the Year, Confer was also a part of three national champions as a record-setting forward at the University of North Carolina.

During her tenure at Georgia, Confer helped develop a potent offensive attack that consistently outscored its opponents and produced players that broke a number of Bulldog offensive records. In addition, she was able to attract top-tier recruits to UGA resulting in nationally-ranked recruiting classes including a No. 12 rank for the 2013 class.

Prior to her time at UGA, Confer served as an assistant coach at Florida State helping guide the Seminoles to a 29-13-4 record during her tenure including the program’s first College Cup appearance in 2003.

Confer’s coaching career also includes stops as an assistant coach at Mississippi State and Texas A&M. While working with coach G. Guerieri at TAMU, the Aggies reached the NCAA Sweet 16 in back-to-back seasons. Her first collegiate coaching experience came as a volunteer assistant under legendary coach Anson Dorrance at her alma mater, North Carolina.

A four-year starter for the Tar Heels (1994-97), Confer helped UNC to national championships in 1994, 1996 and 1997. She was named National Player of the Year by Soccer News and SoccerBuzz as a senior, while also garnering Most Valuable Offensive Player of the NCAA Final Four in 1997. A first-team All American, Confer was a finalist for the Hermann Award, recognizing the nation’s top collegiate soccer athlete. She finished her Carolina career ranked among the all-time scoring leaders finishing with 77 goals and 55 assists.

Confer played in every game of her collegiate career and still holds an NCAA record having played in 107 games. She is one of just 11 former Tar Heel players with their jersey retired. Confer was also named to the Atlantic Coast Conference’s (ACC) 50th Anniversary Women’s Soccer team recognizing the league’s Top 50 players.

A former captain of the U.S. U-20 Youth National team, she made her Women’s National Team debut on Jan. 18, 1996, against Ukraine and was a member of the pool from 1996-99, earning eight caps and one goal. In 2001, Confer was drafted in the fifth round of the Global Draft by the WUSA’s Boston Breakers.

PERSONAL

A native of Clearwater, Fla., Confer was a standout at Clearwater Central Catholic High School finishing her prep career with 227 goals including 80 in her senior season. She earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science from UNC in 1998.
