HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening minutes of the game, the Phoenix earned the early lead as Meredith Christopher gathered a loose ball at the top of the 18-yd box and chipped the ball over the keep and tucked it just under the crossbar.
- In the 11th minute, Christopher tallied her second score after volleying a shot past a diving UNF keeper from the right side of the 6-yd box. Grace Bennett set-up the scoring chance with a free kick feed from near midfield.
- Christopher created a scoring chance for herself in the 16th minute after dribbling into the rightside of the box and pushing a shot into the side of the goal when UNF keeper slipped on the wet turf.
- Kendall Ballotti headed in a corner kick service by Sydney Schilling at the front post.
- The Ospreys found the back of the net in the closing minutes when freshman Thais Reiss dribbled through a pair of Elon defenders and slotted a shot into the right side from 15-yds out.
- North Florida closed out the scoring in the final minute, getting a second goal when a crossed ball deflected off an Elon backline player past the Phoenix keeper.
CONFER'S CORNER
"The game tonight was a tale of two halves. Elon came out early and finished their chances while making it difficult for us to play like we wanted. We challenged the girls at halftime and I thought they responded well. I believe that we can learn from this game and we also had some positives that we can build upon moving forward. Our focus is now to get prepared for our next game Sunday against Charleston Southern." -- Head Coach Robin Confer
Â
GAME NOTES
- Elon held a 12-11 edge in total shots for the game but UNF owned a 5-3 advantage during the second half
- Sarah Wasser and Thais Reiss both posted multiple shots on goal in the contest for the Ospreys
- Reiss scored her first career goal in her collegiate debut
- UNF saw seven players make their collegiate debuts with five freshman earning the starting nod
- Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Rhiannon Conelley posted a pair of saves in her first game between the pipes for UNF
- Elon's Meredith Christopher tallied a hat trick after recording her team's first three goals of the game
