Travis Trace Opens NCAA Championship Play on Friday

The Short Story: North Florida sophomore Travis Trace begins play Friday at the NCAA Golf Championship with an afternoon tee time at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. Trace is the first UNF golfer to participate in the NCAA Championship as an individual qualifier.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:Â The NCAA Championship is being hosted by Northern Illinois and the finals format consists of three days of stroke play on Friday, May 26 through Sunday, May 28 (54 holes), after which the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play on Monday, May 29 to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual national champion. The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, May 30, followed by finals on Wednesday, May 31.

- North Florida is making the program's fifth appearance in the NCAA DI Championship (first since 2013)
- Travis Trace becomes the first Osprey to qualify for the national championship as an individual... Trace shot a two-under par 208 in the NCAA Stanford Regional and was the top individual finisher among teams that didn't advance, finishing two shots better than the next best individual in the regional
- Trace joins Rhys Enoch as the only individuals to qualify for the NCAA Championship in ASUN history... Enoch competed in the 2010 NCAA Championship and finished in a tie for 34th
- Trace will be paired with Will Zalatoris (Wake Forest) and Chandler Phillips (Texas A&M) for the opening two rounds of play... He starts on Hole 1 at 2:17 p.m. CT (3:17 p.m. ET) on Day 1 followed by an 8:57 a.m. CT (9:57 a.m. ET) tee time from Hole 10 in round two
- Current Osprey assistant coach Jeff Dennis is the only other UNF golfer to qualify as an individual for NCAA postseason play having participated in the 2007 NCAA East Regional
