SAY WHAT...
"We are very excited to be hosting the ASUN Championships again. It is such a great time of year for the athletes and staff. The students are finished with finals and have been preparing all year for this championship. We have such a great venue and it is always a pleasure and honor to host the championship meet. We are looking forward to getting things started and even though we have a small roster, we do pack a strong punch in some of our specialty events.
Men's Championship
"Despite missing two key performers in Nick Morken and Bobby Harris, we still have a strong line up on the men's side. Tyler Stahl and Fynn Timm have had very good years and look to continue that excellence at the ASUN meet. Tyler leads the ASUN 1500m list with a very good time of 3:44, while Fynn tops the Steeplechase times with a sub 9:00. Bradley Langenberg, who has really rounded into shape late in the year, is ranked 2nd in the Steeplechase this season. In the 10,000m senior Brad Hort will contend for the title after finishing 3rd in last season. Cross Country Freshman of the Year, Noah Perkins, will also debut in the 10K with high hopes for a strong showing. The 800m crew led by junior Rayford James and also including senior Cristian Acuna and Constantine Stathis along with Chris Robin creates a strong Ospreys threat. Senior Desmond Robb looks to close out his career with another strong 400m, where he is always a contender for the win. Out on the field, senior pole vaulter Shelton McLean enters the meet ranked fourth in the ASUN and has the potential for a strong leap that could put him in the hunt for the win and an East Regional bid as well."
Women's Championship
"Eden Meyer looks to defend her 10,000m and 5,000m titles and will be joined by her sister, Grace, who has continued to improve this season and looks for a strong ASUN 10K/5K double. Seniors Mary Kate Thyfault and Kaitlin King combine with sophomore Audrey Carpenter to make up a strong Steeplechase contingency for UNF. All three have improved this year and Mary Kate and Kaitlin are both focused on finishing their careers with strong performances. Seniors Vanessa Philbert and Morgan Rodriguez look to wrap up their careers by challenging for the win in the 800m, with Vanessa having claimed the event crown during ASUN Indoors. Tiannna Hearn, another senior, is having a banner year. She has come so far throughout her career and her work and dedication are an inspiration.  I am thrilled to see her doing so well this season, and her passion is strong making her a threat in both the 100m and 400m Hurdles. With a slightly faster 400m time she has the opportunity to earn a bid to NCAA Regionals. Freshman Louisa Washburn continues to do well in the pole vault, having earned a second place showing during the Indoor Championships. She has shown the ability to compete really well when the lights come on at big events. Junior Alyssa Young has a strong high jump mark and has enjoyed a consistently solid year. The high jump is a competitive event in the ASUN and we believe it will bring out the best in her. Following an indoor injury, Hallie Grimes has stormed back to fitness and leads the ASUN in the 400m.  She has run her fastest times recently and looks to be able to go even faster. We are looking forward to seeing her run in the Championships." -- Head coach Jeff Pigg
