COLUMBIA, S.C. - North Florida women's tennis swept Middle Tennessee State in singles to close out the Carolina Classic at the Gamecocks Tennis Center on Sunday morning.
COBRA'S CORNER
"It was a great weekend for us overall. We talked about competing well throughout the weekend and getting better every day," said head coach Mariana Cobra. "Our goal was to play our best tennis on Sunday and that is exactly what happened. The girls made little adjustments after every match and we got better. Our captains - Quetzali and Luise - did a great job at leaving everything on the court every time and that is a culture we want to continue to develop.
It was a great weekend for Michell as well being the only one to hand the nationally-ranked player from South Carolina a loss for the whole tournament. We will recover from the weekend and get back to work to focus on the things that need to be improved."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ospreys swept the Blue Raiders even after playing a couple tight sets to start the day. Sophomore Rafaela Gomez dropped her opening set only to respond with a 6-2, 10-4 win in the next two frames.Â
SENIOR STEALTH
Quetzali Vazquez kept it close against Sarah Sediri in the No. 4 spot with a 7-5 first-set victory before shutting her opponent out 6-0 to win.
