JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida women's track and field team closed out their regular season meet schedule Wednesday at Hodges Stadium with six athletes posting personal bests.
"Overall it was a good day for the team," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "I thought the girls competed with a little bit off a weight off their shoulders since we finished up exams last week. I thought we did some things we needed to do in preparation for the conference meet. Megan Walker was very solid in the pole vault and both Alyssa and Alexandra had good jumps in the high jump. Hallie Grimes continued to be a strong performer in the 400m while Tayler Johnson (800m) and Morgan Rodriguez (1500m) did a good job of pacing our middle distance runners today. It was nice to get back on the track and we are looking forward to hosting the ASun next week."
In the field events, Megan Walker claimed the event title in the pole vault with a mark of 3.91m (12-10.00). Meanwhile, Alyssa Young and Alexandra Ellis both cleared the height of 1.67m (5-05.75) in the high jump. The mark was a personal best for Ellis by three-quarters of an inch.
On the track, Hallie Grimes, the current ASun leader in the 400m bettered her personal time clocking a time of 55.51. Tayler Johson (2:12) and Harley Horsley (2:15) both notched PRs in the 800m while juniors Morgan Rodriguez (4:38) and Rachel Licea (4:42) both collected personal bests in the 1500m. Freshman Audrey Carpenter posted a time of 4:51 in her collegiate debut in the 1500m
North Florida now has just over a week to prepare for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship meet on May 13-14 at Hodges Stadium.
