KENNESAW, Ga. – The North Florida Softball team fell 5-1 in their first game against Kennesaw State, but rebounded for a 12-4 win in the second game of an A-Sun Doubleheader at Bailey Park in Kennesaw, Ga.

The Ospreys (13-19, 2-3 A-Sun) will go for the series win tomorrow against the Owls (21-14, 5-3 A-Sun) in the rubbermatch.

Game 1: Kennesaw State 5, North Florida 1

Kennesaw State held a 1-0 lead through the first four innings, until freshman Jenna Brownell bunted home sophomore Alex Arciola to tie the game in the top of the fifth at 1-1.

The Owls responded with a four-run fifth inning and didn't look back after taking a 5-1 lead, holding off the Ospreys for the win.

North Florida had four hits, while junior Logan Green earned the loss in a complete game of work.

Game 2: North Florida 12, Kennesaw State 4 (F/6)

In a tale of two games, the Ospreys put up 12 runs on 17 hits in the second contest of the game, with eight Ospreys earning at least a hit.

After a scoreless first inning, The Ospreys took a 2-0 lead off of a two-run home run by sophomore Ashley Niesman, her second homer of the year.

In the top of the third, North Florida pushed the lead to 4-0 with a RBI single by senior Shelby Duncan, followed by a RBI double by senior Stacy McClelland.

In the top of the fourth, freshman Minnie Cocuzza doubled home sophomore Casey Estes to make the score 5-0.

Kennesaw State made the score 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Ospreys responded with two runs of their own with a RBI bunt by Arciola and a RBI single by junior Ashia Kerr.

The Owls put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 7-4, but the Ospreys broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning.

Duncan started off the offense in the sixth with a two-RBI double, pushing her season RBI total to a team-leading 25. Arciola then singled home a run, followed by RBI singles by Brownell and Niesman to make the score 12-4.

Duncan, McClelland and Brownell all went 3-for-4 for the Ospreys, while Duncan and Niesman both totaled three RBIs, Cocuzza, Niesman and freshman Navia Penrod all went 2-for-4.

The Ospreys go for the series win Sunday at 1 p.m., the game will be live streamed on ASun.TV.
