BRASELTON, Ga. -- The No. 35-ranked North Florida men's golf team heads to the 2016 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship this weekend with tournament action slated to start Sunday at the Legends Course of Chateau Elan.
The Ospreys enter the competition as the defending champions and have claimed the conference title in three of the last four seasons. UNF is seeking their fifth Atlantic Sun championship in program history and have finished in the top three in every league championship tournament they have participated in since joining the league in 2005-06. This year's field includes four teams ranked in the Top 100 nationally including UNF (35), Kennesaw State (46), Lipscomb (56) and Jacksonville (67).
"We are looking forward to competing for another championship," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "We are still waiting to get four guys to all play well in the same event. Hopefully, this is the week that we can make that happen. Chateau Elan is always a challenging course and the conference championship has become extremely competitive."
UNF has collected four Top 5 finishes this season and finished among the Top 10 in 9 of 10 events. The Ospreys own a pair of runner-up showings this year having finished second at the Shoal Creek Invitational and their home event, The Hayt.
Senior Taylor Hancock (72.43 avg.) leads the North Florida lineup this weekend and will be joined by sophomore Dillon Woods (74.35) and a trio freshmen -- Andrew Alligood (72.63), Phillip Knowles (73.53) and Travis Trace (74.56). Hancock and Woods were both members of last year's championship squad, finishing 4th and 7th overall, respectively.
The three-day, 54-hole event begins play Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring for the event is available online at Golfstat.com
