KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The North Florida women's golf team made history Tuesday at Reunion Golf Resort claiming the first Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in just the fourth year of existence for the Osprey program. A trio of UNF golfers finished in the Top 5 helping the squad win the title by double-digits.
On the final day of play, North Florida extended its one-stroke advantage to 11 as all five golfers carded rounds of 77 or better en route to a final round 298. Mary Dawson and Megan Wilshire led the Osprey performers finishing tied for second place at 221, following rounds of 76 and 74, respectively. The tournament total breaks Dawson's program championship record set last season. Emelie Alpe followed in fourth place at 222 after a round of 74 and joined her teammates in collecting All-Championship Team honors.
Nathalie Nygren also fired a round of 74 to finish tied for 11th (228) while Kelly Aylwin rounded out the Osprey lineup in 17th (230) following a round of 77.

"I'm extremely proud of and excited for this group of young ladies," said head coach Joanne Berglund. "When we started the program four years ago, the team set a goal of winning a conference championship and through hard work and dedication that dream was accomplished today. I can't put into words how fortunate I am to be able to coach a group of players like this team. We look forward to representing the Atlantic Sun in the NCAA Tournament and hope that this championship is the start of many more accomplishments for our program."
UNF finished with a three-round total of 890, marking the only team to finish under 900 at this year's event. Florida Gulf Coast was the runner-up at 901 followed by Kennesaw State (904), Jacksonville (908), Stetson (923), Lipscomb (953) and USC Upstate (958). KSU's Clara Aveling captured the individual medalist crown at 218 (+2), edging the Osprey duo of Dawson and Wilshire by three strokes.
As the A-Sun Champions, North Florida now awaits the announcement of the fields for the four NCAA Regionals set for play on May 5-7. The Regional site locations include Birmingham, Ala.; Baton Rouge; La., Bryan, Texas; and Stanford, Calif.
