STATESBORO, Ga. -- The No.33-ranked North Florida men's golf team matched its season best round and had four players shoot par or better Friday in the opening round of the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club.
The Ospreys ended the first day tied for sixth after carding a score of 8-under 280. Freshman Andrew Alligood led the way firing a 4-under 68 to finish the day tied for sixth, while fellow freshman Philip Knowles carded a career best 3-under 69 (T-21) to join him in the Top 25.
Senior Taylor Hancock, the reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, joined the duo in red numbers by posting a 1-under 71 to be tied for 36th. Sophomores Jordan Batchelor and Dillon Woods rounded out the UNF lineup with rounds of even par 72 (T46) and 75 (T65), respectively.

"The course played very easy today and we did a nice job of having four rounds at par or better," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "We made a few mistakes that limited us from shooting an even lower score. Tomorrow's round could include some rain which will present a new challenge for us since we haven't experienced that this semester."
No. 10 Wake Forest tops the team standings after shooting a 270 in the opening round. No. 15 Vanderbilt and Georgia State are currently tied for second at 274 followed by Iowa (279) and No. 19 North Carolina (279) in the Top 5. The Demon Deacons' Davis Wombie heads the individual medalist competition after a round of 8-under 64.
Tournament action continues with second round play on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. North Florida will tee off from Hole 1 alongside Kentucky and the College of Charleston. Live scoring every three holes is available online at Golfstat.com.
