MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- It was a tale of two rounds on the opening day of play Saturday for the No. 30-ranked North Florida men's golf team in the General Hackler Championship at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
The Ospreys, who ended the day in seventh place of the 15-team field, raced to the top of the leaderboard in the morning session after carding an 8-under par 280. The performance matched the best reound of the year for the squad and was sparked by freshman Andrew Alligood's 4-under 68 and senior Taylor Hancock's 3-under 69.
Unfortunately, UNF struggled over the final 12 holes during their afternoon round and slipped to seventh after posting an 11-over 299. Hancock was the only player to keep consistent throughout the day firing an even-par 72 that left him tied for eighth in the individual competition.
"We played very well today for 24 holes and then played about as poorly as we have played all year," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "I'm not sure I ever remember going from the lead in a tournament to seventh place in the stretch of 12 holes. We are a young team so we have to learn from this and bounce back tomorrow."

Alligood heads into the final round tied for 29th (145) after a second round 77 while sophomore Dillon Woods posted rounds of 70-78 to end the day tied for 42nd (148). Sophomore Jordan Batchelor is tied for 51st (149) after rounds of 73-76 and freshman Philip Knowles rounded out the Osprey lineup in a tie for 55th (150) following rounds of 76-74. In addition, freshman Travis Trace competed in the event as an individual and carded rounds of 75-78 to rank tied for 64th (153).
Round two play was suspended due to darkness with two groups of players left to finish their rounds in the morning, but No. 19-ranked South Carolina leads the team competition at 16-under 560 with No. 24 Virginia close behind in second at 563. No. 43 North Carolina State sits in third with golfers left to finish while No. 32 Texas A&M (571) and No. 16 North Carolina (573) filled out the Top 5 teams in the standings.
UVA's Jimmy Stanger heads up the individual medalist standings with a two-round score of 136 (-8).
Tournament action concludes with a final round of 18 holes Sunday on the par 72, 7,233-yard layout. Tee times for the last round will begin at 8:30 a.m. with pairings set after completion of Saturday's suspended round at 7:30 a.m.
