
Ospreys Host FAU on Sunday for Military Appreciation Day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Playing its second game in three days, the North Florida women's basketball teams preps for in-state rival FAU on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game is free to all military personnel with ID or in uniform and their guests.

- Today marks the sixth meeting between the two times. UNF has one win against the Owls coming in 2010 63-61 at UNF Arena.
- In its game against Webber, the Ospreys had six players hit double figures and it was the first time since 1997 that  UNF hit 100 points.
- Junior Sierra Shepherd dished out a team-high seven helpers in the victory against the Warriors to help UNF reach 25 assists for the first time since 2013.
- For the second straight season, UNF has opened its season with a win.Â
- Redshirt junior Tesh Hanson was tabbed the ASUN Newcomer of the Week after tallying her first career double-double against FAMU with 18 pts and 11 reb.
- Ioannidis and Hanson have now scored double-figure point totals in the first three game.
- UNF is playing its second game in six days (Webber, FAU, Xavier) and then has back-to-back games after Thanksgiving.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
- FAU is coming off its first loss of the season at Mercer on Friday.
- The Owls defeated Florida Memorial and Indiana State at home prior to their first away contest.
- Malia Kency leads the team with 10.7 points per game, while Raven Doyle is getting it done on both sides of the floor with 10.3 ppg and a team-best 9.7 boards per game.Â
- Kency and Sasha Cedeno are threats from long range as both have seven treys on the season.
- FAU is outrebounding opponents by 7.7 per game with five players averaging three or more.
ON THIS DAY
North Florida is 5-1 on this day, last playing in 2011 at Missouri where the Ospreys took the loss. Previously, UNF has played just one time on Nov. 20 in Division I history.
LONG RANGE STREAKING
The Ospreys have made at least one 3-pointer in 35 consecutive games dating back to 2/25/15 when FGCU held them without a longball (0-8).
CRASH THE GLASS
UNF's 58 boards against Webber is fourth best in program history. Every one who saw time had at least two rebounds on the day including three with seven.
NEW FACES
The Ospreys added depth in the offseason with the addition of six players to its roster. HANSON & Simone Brown come off of a season out due to transfer rules, while Jaiveonna Norris joins UNF after a successful junior college career. Freshmen Kennya Simms, Adrienne Jackson and Kirsten Clement wrap up the newbies.
