2015 NCAA East Preliminary Round Information
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A quartet of North Florida track and field student-athletes qualified to compete in the upcoming NCAA East Preliminary at UNF's Hodges Stadium. The Ospreys earning bids included senior Elle Baker and freshmen Nick Morken, Eden Meyer and Bobby Harris.
The four qualifiers matches the North Florida Division I program record set in 2011, with the two men's participants marking a UNF program record.
"With us being the host of the event, having more athletes qualified brings an even greater level of excitement to the program and Hodges Stadium," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "We have four very deserving athletes and also had several other athletes that were hopeful of qualifying. We are looking forward to next week and looking forward to a rewarding meet."
Baker will be making a return to the NCAA East Prelim in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, after participating in the event last year. Baker qualified for the steeplechase with a personal record of 10:19.69, the 36th ranked time in the East Region this year.
"Elle qualified last year and has been on a mission all year long to come back and run even better," added Pigg.
Meyer, a native of Jacksonville, looks to wrap up her solid freshman campaign by competing in the 10,000m. She is coming off a gold medal performance in the event at last week's Atlantic Sun Championship and posted the region's 36th fastest time (34:47.11) in earning her spot in the NCAA Prelims.
The highest scoring male freshman at last week's Atlantic Sun Championship, Morken hopes to cap his stellar rookie season with a strong performance in the 800m. Morken's personal best time of 1:49.35 allowed him to post the East Region's 43rd best time.
Harris enters the NCAA Prelim as the highest ranked Osprey, posting the East Region's 13th best mark of 2.13m (6'11.75") en route to claiming the Atlantic Sun gold medal in the high jump. The mark was not only a personal best but also a school record height.
"I'm very proud of each of our freshman qualifiers," Pigg said. "All three of them have had outstanding seasons and worked hard to earn this opportunity."
The NCAA East Preliminary Round will take place May 28-30. Further information regarding the meet and ticket purchasing can be found at the above link.
