LUBBOCK, Texas -- For the sixth consecutive season, the No.23-ranked North Florida men's golf team will play in an NCAA Regional with the Ospreys set to tee off Thursday morning in the Lubbock Regional at The Rawls Course (Par 71, 7,349 yards).
The Ospreys advanced to an NCAA Regional for the seventh time in head coach Scott Schroeder's 10-year tenure after claiming their third Atlantic Sun Conference title in the past four years. UNF has enjoyed recent success in NCAA Regional play having advanced to the NCAA Championship in two of the last three seasons.
UNF is the No. 4 seed in the Lubbock Regional and their are joined in the field by regional top-seed and No. 2 ranked Texas along with No. 9 Texas Tech, No. 13 Auburn, No. 26 California, No. 35 Houston, No. 38 Louisville, No. 48 Duke, No. 51 Southeastern Louisiana, No. 60 Purdue, No. 64 Georgia State, UC-Irvine and Charleston Southern.
North Florida is familiar with the field in Lubbock having played against nine of the other 12 teams this season with an 8-4-0 record in head-to-head play.
"We are looking forward to getting started tomorrow," said Schroeder. "The golf course is in great shape and weather looks like it will be warm and windy. The course layout is a bit different than we are used to, but we should be able to adjust and play well. The fairways are really wide open and that will make shots to the green extremely important."
UNF's travel squad for the postseason will be led by all-conference senior Joey Petronio, who will be playing in an NCAA Regional for the fourth consecutive year. He will be joined by fellow senior Parker Jones, all-conference juniors Taylor Hancock and Austin Padova as well as A-Sun all-freshman Dillon Woods.
The Lubbock Regional is one of six 54-hole competitions this weekend. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship on May 29-June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
The Ospreys will begin postseason play Thursday at 8:20 a.m. CT (9:20 a.m. ET) on Hole 10 alongside California and Houston. Live scoring is available for the event online at Golfstat.com.
