JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida softball team won their ninth straight contest over Jacksonville 4-2 Sunday in the annual River City Rumble series at the UNF Softball Complex.

The Ospreys (29-23, 11-8 A-Sun) improve their overall record in the River City Rumble series to 17-6 over the Dolphins (23-25, 5-10 A-Sun) while also clinching at least a five-seed in the Atlantic Sun Postseason Tournament.

"This was a great week for us. Four wins against conference opponents allowed us to secure a spot in the A-Sun Tournament," said coach Marcie Hickey. "We are playing well right now. Our offense is providing run support and our pitchers and defense are holding our opponents. I feel good about where we are at as we finish the regular season."

The Dolphins opened the game with a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with a RBI sacrifice fly.

The Ospreys responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Ashia Kerr scored the first run with a RBI groundout to tie the game at 1-1.

Senior Kelly Wilson followed with a three-run home run to left field. Her fifth home run of the season gave the Ospreys a 4-1 lead after two innings.

Jacksonville was held scoreless through the top of the seventh when they cut the lead to 4-2 with a RBI single and loaded the bases, but the Ospreys got out of the jam to clinch the win and the series sweep.

Senior Kaylie Wallace earned the win Sunday, allowing one earned run and scattering eight hits while striking out four over six and two-thirds innings, Senior Kayla Goff came in to get the final out and the save. The Ospreys' defense showed their ability to stifle any Dolphins rally, with Jacksonville stranding nine base runners.

The Ospreys close out their conference games Wednesday when they travel to DeLand for a doubleheader with Stetson at 4 p.m.
