HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – University of North Florida women's tennis ended the opening weekend of Atlantic Sun play with a dominating 5-0 shutout at Northern Kentucky on Friday afternoon at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex.

"We were diligent and professional today," said head coach Audra Cohen. "We stayed aggressive and played our kind of tennis without playing to the level of our opponent."

In the doubles competition, UNF overpowered Northern Kentucky, quickly taking the doubles points. Taylor Hollander and Esther Zuniga stormed past Hailey Shanahan and Danielle Donahue on the No. 1 court. At No. 2 doubles, Rebeca Pereira and Quetzali Vazquez downed Nicole Soutar and Sydney Power 8-2. Additionally, Michelle Valdez and Luise Intert were up 7-2 on the No. 3 court when the Ospreys clinched doubles points.

UNF accumulated four quick singles points by winning the first set on all four of those courts 6-0. Zuniga posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Shanahan at No. 1 singles. Vazquez downed Rheanna Morehart 6-0, 6-2 on the No. 4 court, while Pereira cruised by Soutar 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Intert added a 6-0, 6-2 win over Sierra Nellessen at No. 6 singles.

UNF returns to action with its first home conference match on Thursday. The Ospreys host Kennesaw State at 10 a.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex. Admission is free to all UNF home tennis matches.
