JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida softball team takes on FGCU to start their Atlantic Sun Conference slate this Saturday and Sunday at the UNF Softball Complex.
Â
The Ospreys (16-10) are coming off of a doubleheader against Toledo this past Tuesday, where they split with the Rockets.
Â
The Eagles (15-13) took the 2014 series with the Ospreys 3-0.
Â
It's nice to be playing our conference opener on our home field this weekend," said coach Marcie Hickey. "We're coming off of a solid offensive series against Toledo and are looking to carry that into the weekend."
Â
North Florida's lineup is led by juniors Stacy McClelland and Shelby Duncan, and senior Kelly Wilson.
Â
McClelland leads the team in home runs (8) and RBIs (25) while batting a team-leading .412 and slugging a team-leading .753.
Â
Duncan is batting .360 and tied for the team lead in doubles (7) and second on the team in hits (32).
Â
Wilson averages .323 and is also tied for the team lead in doubles (7). Wilson has also been on a tear running the bases, totaling 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts.
Â
The Ospreys' bullpen is led by seniors Kayla Goff and Kaylie Wallace. Goff holds a 7-2 record on the year with five complete games this year in 10 starts and a 2.04 ERA.
Â
Wallace leads the bullpen in ERA (1.87) and has a 5-4 record with six complete games in nine starts.
Â
"Every time we play FGCU it's a close game and a hard fought battle by both teams," added Hickey. "I don't anticipate this weekend being any different."
Â
The three-game series starts Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader. Then on Sunday the series concludes with a single-game matchup at 1 p.m.
Â
Live stats will be provided through UNFOspreys.com and a full recap following each day will be available online.
