BOCA RATON, Fla. – Freshman Ashley Niesman homered and senior Kaylie Wallace dealt a complete-game shutout as the North Florida Softball team defeated Princeton 3-0 Sunday morning to close their weekend at the FAU Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla.
Â
The Ospreys (10-5) close their weekend with a record of 2-3 at the FAU Invitational.
Â
"We finished the weekend on a positive note. We put 3 runs on the board in the first inning and did a great job holding Princeton when they got runners in scoring position," said coach Marcie Hickey. "[Kaylie Wallace] did a good job staying ahead in counts and that combined with a great defensive effort earned us a shutout win."
Â
It was a three-run first inning that was the difference maker. Senior Kelly Wilson scored on a Katie Mandigo SAC fly to left field to make it 1-0. The next batter up, Niesman, crushed a line drive home run over the right field fence to score junior Stacy McClelland and push the lead to 3-0.
Â
Senior Kaylie Wallace scattered eight hits over her seven innings of work for her third complete game of the season and her second shutout of the year.
Â
The Ospreys are back in action Friday, Feb 27 in their second home tournament of the season. They face Siena at 4:45 p.m. and South Dakota at 7 p.m. at the UNF Softball Complex.
