@OspreySB Splits First Day of Home Tournament
2/27/2015 10:10:00 PM | Softball
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida Softball team recovered from errors and hitting woes against #25 Kansas to salvage a split in their first day of their second home tournament Friday at the UNF Softball Complex.
Â
The Ospreys (11-6) fell to the Jayhawks 1-0 in the afternoon game before defeating Siena 6-2 in the nightcap.
Â
In the first game of the day, North Florida could only muster one hit against the Kansas defense, which came in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Stacy McClelland single.
Â
Senior Kaylie Wallace and the defense did all they could to stifle the Kansas bats. The Jayhawks put seven hits on the board but couldn't put across more than their lone run. Wallace finished with five strikeouts in a complete game of work
Â
In the second game of the day against Siena, the Ospreys were able to piece together timely hits and take advantage of five errors by the Siena defense.
Â
Freshman Ashley Niesman delivered a two-RBI double to start a four-run third inning. The Ospreys went up 5-0 before relinquishing two runs to the Saints in the bottom of the fifth.
Â
Senior Kayla Goff delivered a complete-game, five strikeout performance while scattering 11 hits and giving up no earned runs.
Â
The Ospreys host Kansas once again in a rematch of Friday's game tomorrow at approximately 2:30 p.m. before facing South Dakota at approximately 7 p.m.
