
Three Ospreys Qualify for Finals on Day 2 of @TheCCSA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – North Florida had three swimmers qualify for evening finals on the second day of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Championships. Junior Amy Taylor put together two of the best times in program history in the 500 freestyle.

In morning preliminaries, Taylor was posted the ninth fastest time, 5:01.32 to become one of 24 swimmers to qualify for finals later in the day. She finished 14th in the evening finals, just clipping her prelim time with a 5:01.23. Both times were the eighth and ninth fastest times in the event in program history.

Kara Plocharsky also was an evening qualifier in the 500 freestyle and swam a season best time of 5:14.96 in prelims. She was able to top the prelim time for a 24th place finish in the evening final, with another season-best, 5:14.36.

Freshman Chase Walker turned in the fastest freestyle time of any Osprey in 2014-15 in the morning preliminaries (24.27). She placed 24th in the evening session with a time of 24.31. Her prelim time was the 10th fastest 50 freestyle time in school history.

In the final event of the day, the Ospreys nearly made history in the 200 freestyle relay. The quartet of Walker, Amy Creech, Rebeca Bernard and Maria Bernard were less than a half a second off the school record and touched with a time of 1:36.42. The school record stands at 1:36.02 which was set back in 2010.

In the morning preliminaries, a number of Ospreys turned in their best times of the season. Senior Maria Bernard, just missed qualifying for the evening finals in the 500 freestyle. She finished 25th with a time of 5:16.47. Classmate Lissa Janowicz placed 28th in the 200 individual medley with her best time of the season, 2:10.80.

In the 50 freestyle, Creech (24.49), Rebeca Bernard (24.58), Taylor Schmidinger (24.89) and Angel Morrison (25.70) also had their best swims of the 2014-15 season.

The third day of the CCSA Championships will feature the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and the 400 medley relay. Preliminaries will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the evening final sessions at 6:00 p.m.
