PINEHURST, N.C. -- Led by a program record scoring performance from senior Mary Dawson and a record setting tournament team total, the North Florida women's golf team earned an eighth-place finish Tuesday at the Pinehurst Challenge hosted by the College of Charleston on Pinehurst Country Club's No. 1 Course (par 72 / 5,949 yards).
The Ospreys shot a final round 300 en route to posting a 54-hole total of 877 (+13), eclipsing the program record of 880 set earlier this season in the JU Classic. Dawson finished tied for seventh in the medalist competition, shooting a three-round 4-under 212 that included a second consecutive even-par 72 in the final round.
Dawson was joined in the Top 20 individuals by junior teammate Lauren Coe, who finished tied for 17th at 1-over 217 following a final round 75. Senior Emelie Alpe posted a round of 77 on Tuesday to finish tied for 51st (224) followed in the UNF lineup by fellow seniors Belinda George (T-59th / 226) and Kelly Aylwin (T-63rd / 227).


East Carolina captured the team crown leading wire-to-wire and posting a tournament total of 857, six shots ahead of runner-up Chattanooga at 863. Elon was third at 866 with Iowa and Maryland tying at 873 to round out the Top 5. William & Mary's Alessandra Liu fired a 10-under 206 in claiming the medalist title by three shots.
North Florida make a quick return to action, closing out their fall tournament slate Oct. 19-20 at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
