AUSTIN, Texas -- Playing in the most challenging event of the program's four-year history, the North Florida women's golf team ended Monday's opening day of play in 13th place in the prestigious Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Course.
In a 14-team field that featured four teams currently ranked in Golfstat's Top 25, the Ospreys posted rounds of 303-301 on the day for a 36-hole total of 604.Senior Belinda George paced the solid UNF performance finishing tied for 20th after scores of 73-74=147 (+3). Fellow senior Emelie Alpe fired the best round of the day, even par 72, during the afternoon to rank tied for 28th at 148 (76-72).
The remainder of the Osprey lineup included junior Lauren Coe, tied for 45th at 152 (76-76), senior Mary Dawson 64th with 157 (78-79) and senior Kelly Aylwin in 71st at 161 (79-82). Junior Nathalie Nygren is currently tied for 65th at 158 (80-78).

No. 8 ranked Kent State sits atop the team standings following an opening day performance of 1-under 575. No. 21 UNLV and No. 37 Texas Tech are tied for second at even par 576 with tournament host Texas (583) and No. 22 New Mexico (587) rounding out the list of Top 5 squads.
Tournament action concludes with a final round Tuesday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (CT). North Florida will be paired with Tulsa and the individuals beginning play on holes 16-18. Live scoring is available online at Golfstat.com.
