
Afternoon Improvement Pushes #WGolf to 15th on Day 1 of Forest Oaks Fall Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Sparked by an eight shot improvement in Monday's afternoon round, the North Florida women's golf team ended the opening day of play at UNCG's Forest Oaks Fall Classic with a 36-hole total of 634.
The Ospreys finished second round action tied for 15th with Longwood University after rounds of 321-313. In her collegiate debut, freshman Meghan Bennett led the way for UNF finishing tied for 23rd at 153 including an even-par 72 in afternoon play.
Sophomore Nathalie Nygren was the squad's top performer in the morning session carding a 4-over 76 and finished opening day play teid for 44th at 157. A trio of linksters tied for 75th at 164 to round out the UNF lineup. Junior Emelie Alpe posted rounds of 80-84 while junior Mary Dawson and sophomore Megan Wilshire shot rounds of 84-80. Wilshire was making her debut for the Ospreys.
Elon leads the 18-team field at 599, nine strokes in front of the trio of James Madison, Rollins and Maryland at 608. UNC Wilmington is fourth at 609 followed by Mercer (610), High Point (611), Jacksonville (613), Charleston Southern (617), UNCG (618), Winthrop (618), Gardner-Webb (622), Cincinnati (622), Appalachian State (623), UNF and Longwood, Radford (635) and Presbyterian (665).
Mercer's Katy Harris tops the medalist standings by two shots at 2-under 142.
Tournament action at Forest Oaks Country Club concludes with a final round beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. North Florida will play alongside Cincinnati and Appalachian State on Tuesday.
