ORLANDO, Fla. – University of North Florida women's tennis travels to its third fall competition as the Ospreys compete at the UCF Quad Tournament Friday-Sunday at the UCF Tennis Complex.
Â
"With our first tournament a couple weekends ago at Mercer, we were not as match ready as we are now, so I expect better tennis and a better competitive spirit this weekend," said head coach Audra Cohen. "This tournament is a good opportunity for us to evaluate our tennis and for each girl to earn their position in the line-up. We have a lot of depth this year. These tournaments are each player's chance to define the role they want to have."
Â
UNF has already competed at the Mercer Bear Gridiron Classic two weekends ago and then three Ospreys played at the Miami Hurricane Fall Invite last weekend. In each of the previous two tournaments, UNF has had someone reach the finals in either the main draw bracket or in the consolation bracket.
Â
At the Mercer Bear Gridiron Classic, Taylor Hollander and Quetzali Vazquez each won their respective singles flights. In doubles, Rebeca Pereira and Luise Intert took home the Flight A title, while Vazquez and Esther Zuniga claimed Flight B.
Â
Facing stiff competition at the Miami Hurricane Fall Invitational, Vazquez and Zuniga each made the consolation finals match for their singles brackets. However, due to weather delays during the Invitational's first two days, the finals matches were not played. Meanwhile, in doubles, Michelle Valdez was part of the duo that won the Green Flight consolation title, teaming with Pitt's Molly Wickman to defeat Vazquez and Zuniga in a tie-break.
Â
In addition to UNF and UCF, Georgia State and Florida Atlantic will also be competing at the UCF Quad Tournament.
Â
Competition at the UCF Quad Tournament begins at 10 a.m., on Friday.
