JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida women's soccer team (0-2-0) fell 3-0 to the FIU Panthers Sunday afternoon at Hodges Stadium.
Â
"We are going to take a lot out of this weekend as a team and continue to get better.  We addressed some things from Friday's game that we improved on today, and we will get better from this game today," said coach Robin Confer. "FIU was very good in transition into the attack and made it difficult for us to play at times." Â
Â
The first goal for the Panthers (1-1-0) came in the 19th minute, as Ashleigh Shim played the ball down the right side and got a low shot past senior goalkeeper Megan Dorsey.
Â
Three minutes later, the Panthers took advantage of an Ospreys foul in the box, and Johanna Volz converted on the penalty kick, finding the low left corner of the goal.
Â
"We are a young and somewhat inexperienced team. Some of the upperclassmen are seeing more minutes than they did last year and combining that with a large freshmen and sophomore class, it takes a few games for them to get used to the intensity and speed of play at the college level," added Confer.
Â
The final goal for FIU came in the 77th minute, as Chelsea Leiva found Shim, who hit a long shot from the right side of the goal for her second score of the match.
Â
The Panthers outshot UNF by a margin of 18-5. Dorsey finished with five saves.
Â
"Again we are seeing some good things at times, but we need to bring a more consistent performance," Confer concluded. "Now it is time to focus on next week and preparing for Lafayette and another ACC opponent with Boston College."
Â
The Ospreys continue their four-match home stand next Friday against Lafayette. Kick off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
