JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida women's soccer team (0-3) came up short this evening, dropping a 1-0 decision to Lafayette (2-0) at Hodges Stadium. A second half goal by the Leopards proved to be the difference in the tightly contested, non-conference tilt.

All but two of the five goals this season by Lafayette have come off the foot of striker Alyssa Finelli, including today's game-winner. Finelli came up with a loose ball outside the 18-yard box in the 57th minute and was able to chip it over a charging Osprey goalkeeper Megan Dorsey for the goal. The shot ricocheted off the far right post before trickling into the back of the net. Finelli scored twice in the Leopards season opening victory against St. Peter's last weekend.

"That was a heartbreaker because I thought we played really well tonight and I am so proud of this team," said Head Coach Robin Confer. "Lafayette was able to capitalize on a miscue and that was the difference in the game."

The entire contest it seemed the Ospreys were on the attack and even held a 9-1 advantage in shots at the half. An intitial surge out of the second half gates by the Leopards led the game's only goal. Lafayette created six shots over the final 45 minutes compared to just three by the Ospreys. Each team managed only four shots on goal.

"We possessed the ball very well, were able to create some great chances and have to have the mentality to put those chances away," added Confer. "We now turn our focus to another tough opponent in Boston College on Sunday."

Dorsey and her goalkeeping counterpart, Danielle Sedillo, made a pair of saves. Sedillo played all 90 minutes and was credited with her second win of the season.

The Ospreys return to the pitch on Sunday and square off against Boston College at Hodges Stadium. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
