JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida women's soccer team got their first taste of competition this season Friday at Hodges Stadium, dropping an exhibition match to Miami 3-0.
"This is exactly the game we wanted," said first-year Head Coach Robin Confer. "Miami is a good team and to be able to play against a good ACC team and be tested was great."
Miami first scored in the 15th minute, when Cortney O'Connell delivered a pass over the middle to Grace Rapp, who chipped sophomore goalkeeper Susie Ford.
The Hurricanes struck again just two minutes later, when Rapp tallied another score with a back-post header from a Gianna Dal Pozzo corner kick.
Miami's final goal came in the 47th minute against senior keeper Megan Dorsey, as Natalie Moik found the back right corner of the net after a Maddie Simms feed.
Senior Jennifer Marzi and junior Amanda Fischler each got a shot off for the Ospreys, while Ford led the goalkeepers with four saves.
"We saw some things tonight that are going to help us get better as a team. We had some moments of really good soccer and we just need to be cleaner with our final pass," added Confer. "We are going to learn a lot from this game and we are excited to get back out to practice to prepare this team for High Point next Friday"
The Ospreys are back in action on Aug. 22 for their season opener against High Point. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
