Medina/Hildreth Drop Opening Matches of Pool Play at AVCA Sand Nationals

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- North Florida's sand volleyball duo of Dagnija Medina and Kim Hildreth lost two matches on the opening day of pair's pool play at the AVCA Sand National Championships.

The Osprey pair started the day with a tough three-set loss to the tandem of Jordan Shaw and Samantha Tinsley of St. Mary's (Calif.). Medina and Hildreth claimed the first game of the match 21-17 before falling 21-16 and 15-5.

In the pairs second match of the day, Long Beach State's duo of Tyler Jackson and Janisa Johnson topped UNF, 21-14 and 21-17.

Dagnija and Medina will conclude competition in pool play Saturday with a pair of matches against Kenzie Phelps/Kelli Dallmann from Grand Canyon and Tea Juric/Jackie Wegner of Tulane.

The pairs with the top two records in pool play qualify for the championship pairs bracket on Sunday, while the third-place pair earns the chance to play their way into the bracket via a play-in match against the No. 2 pair of from the fifth and sixth place team tournament finishers.
