GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's and women's track and field teams will take part in the Pepsi Florida Relays, Friday and Saturday, at Percy Beard Track on the campus of the University of Florida.
"This meet brings in some of the top teams in the country," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "For this meet we will be focused more on our middle distance relay teams."
The Ospreys are coming off their first home meet of the season last weekend when they hosted the University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational on the newly replaced track at Hodges Stadium.
Records highlighted the UNF Spring Break Invite for the Ospreys. On the women's side, sophomore Brittany Wagoner (pole vault), junior Alessandra Valdes (800-meter run) and junior Elle Baker (3000-meter Steeplechase) each captured victories in their respected events. Wagoner (3.79m) and Baker (10:39.04) both recorded personal bests.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team brought home a victory for the Ospreys as junior Maurice Sapp, freshman Desmond Robb, freshman Cristian Acuna and junior Cecil Rolle clocked a time of 3:18.00. Freshmen Jacob Fuller, Billy Boros and Cristian Acuna all set lifetime bests. Fuller clocked in at 3:55.00 in the 1500-meter run and in the 800-meter run Boros finished with a time of 1:55.28 while Acuna had a time of 1:56.53.
Competition for the Florida Relays will begin on both Friday and Saturday mornings at 10 a.m.
"We look to continue to take a step in the right direction," said Pigg. "We will definitely use this meet to help us prepare for the conference championship. "
