KENNESAW, Ga. – University of North Florida softball plays its first of five road Atlantic Sun Conference series this weekend when the Ospreys travel to Kennesaw State. The three-game series begins at the Bailey Softball Complex with a doubleheader at 1 p.m., on Saturday and then concludes with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Â
"We are anxious to get back into conference play after a few days off," said head coach Marcie Hickey. "Kennesaw is a tough team and this weekend will be a real battle. We are going to have to play our game and do the little things well in order to be successful."
Â
UNF began the conference season last weekend against Lipscomb. The Ospreys rallied to capture the series' first game 12-4 in six innings, but were shutout in the final two games.
Â
With a month into the season, Cortney Radke is one of four Atlantic Sun pitchers with under a 1.00 ERA. Radke has a 0.91 ERA in 46.0 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Ashley Holton and Kelly Wilson are both 10-for-10 in stolen bases this year. Holton and Wilson are two of the three players in the Atlantic Sun with double-digit steals already on the season.
Â
Kennesaw State began a busy week of seven home games in eight days with a 2-0 loss to Georgia Southern on Wednesday. It was the second-straight game in which the Owls were held scoreless. This is Kennesaw State's first Atlantic Sun series of the season. Like UNF, the Owls began 2014 at the Troy Subway Invitational, posting wins over Middle Tennessee and Memphis and falling to then-No. 6 Alabama and Troy. Angie Dacoli is batting a team-best .375 with 18 hits. Amanda Henderson has a 1.13 ERA, which is fifth in the Atlantic Sun, in 55.2 innings of work.
Â
The series with Kennesaw State is the more often played series in UNF's history. This weekend's games will be the 50th, 51st and 52nd meetings between the two teams. Kennesaw State holds a 37-12 all-time lead, but UNF captured last year's three-game series at the UNF Softball Complex.Â
