
#SB Drops Series Finale to Lipscomb

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida softball team fell 7-0 to Lipscomb on Sunday afternoon at the UNF Softball Complex during the first weekend of Atlantic Sun Play as Lipscomb took the three-game weekend series 2-1.

Lipscomb jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with back-to-back two-run innings in the first and second. The Lady Bisons scored two runs in the first on an Osprey miscue. Two more Lipscomb runs were added in the second. Kristen Sturdivant had a deep infield single that drove in Brittany Elmore, but during same play, an Osprey miscue also allowed Paige Neely to get home.

Lipscomb increased its lead to seven with a three-run fifth inning. Rena' Cothron brought home Bridgette Begle on a two-out double. Brianne Welch then hit a two-run homer over the left field wall, giving the Lady Bisons their 7-0 lead.

UNF's best chance came in the bottom of the fifth after Mariah Reynolds singled to shallow left. Reynolds advanced to second on a Katie Mandigo walk. Reynolds attempted to score after the Lady Bisons mishandle a ball up the middle, but was thrown out by Elmore at plate.

Lipscomb pitcher Ashley Anderson went the distance for the Lady Bisons in the win, striking out five and only allowing one hit in 7.0 innings.

Kayla Goff pitched the first 4.2 innings for the Ospreys, allowing one earned run off of nine hits en route to receiving the loss. She also struck out two.

The Ospreys are back in action Tuesday, March 11 with a doubleheader against Bowling Green. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., at the UNF Softball Complex.Â
