
#SandVB Earns Split on First Day of Beach N' Board Fest

COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- The North Florida sand volleyball team split a pair of matches against Atlantic Sun rivals Stetson and Jacksonville in opening day play at the Ron Jon Beach N Boards Fest.
The Ospreys started their day off with a tough 3-2 loss to the Hatters before bouncing back with a 3-2 victory over crosstown rival JU. The loss to Stetson marked UNF's first defeat at the hands of SU, after winning the first six meetings between the pair.
In the Stetson match, UNF claimed wins at the No. 1 and 4 spots while also dropping a tough three-set loss at No. 5. The Hatters earned a pair of straight set victories at No. 2 and 3 to secure the victory.
Danija Medina and Kim Hildreth paired together to earn the Osprey's first point at the top spot, outlasting Kaley Melville/Kaylee Anderson, 2-1 (16-21, 21-19, 15-9). At No. 4, the tandem of Tanner Garbutt/Cameron McGuire earned the 2-1 (21-18, 21-23, 15-10) decision over Kristin Lind/Tiffany Creamer.
In the match against the Dolphins, North Florida's wins came at the No. 2, 4, 5 positions, while the squad's top pair battled in a tough three-set match decided in extra points in two of the three games.
UNF's No. 2 duo of Anna Budinska and Cari Whitmire swept JU's Gabriela Roman/Jizzian Gesualdo, 21-6, 21-15 while the Osprey's No. 5 tandem of Ebony Gunn and Allison Shirley also won in straight sets (21-9, 21-19) over Emily Laskelle/Rachel Miller. North Florida earned the decisive point as Garbutt/McGuire remained undefeated on the day with a tough 2-1 (19-21, 21-14, 15-13) win at No. 4 against Alyssa Robertson/Mayara Prestes.
The Ospreys will conclude play at the Beach N Boards Fest with matches against Georgia State and Webber International.
