
Cold Night Hurts #WBB in 76-41 Loss at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – A tough night shooting doomed University of North Florida women's basketball during its regular-season road finale at East Tennessee State, falling to the Buccaneers 76-41 at the MSHA Athletics Center on Saturday evening.

UNF only shot 26.0 percent (13-for-50) from the floor and shot under 30.0 percent for both halves.

Brittney Wright scored a team-best 13 points, while Janeá Williams was one of two players with a game-high eight rebounds.

Serena Clark and Shawn Randall each tallied 19 points. Tiana Burley also grabbed eight rebounds.

ETSU shot 51.7 percent (30-for-58) from the floor, including a hot 60.0 percent (15-for-25) in the second half alone. The Bucs were also 10-for-10 from the foul line. ETSU out-rebounded the Ospreys 42-27.

After Wright made a layup at 13:15 in the first half that made it 15-8, UNF went without a field goal for nearly 12 minutes as all of the Ospreys' points during that span came from eight free throws. ETSU took its largest lead during that 12-minute span, going up by 21 when a Shamauria Bridges three-pointer made it 32-11 on a Shamauria Bridges. Chandler Merkerson ultimately ended the field goal drought at 1:12 with a jumper that cut ETSU's lead down to 18. Bridges and Destinee Smith traded three-pointers to end the half as ETSU took a 38-20 lead into halftime.

ETSU opened the second half on a 9-2 run to lead 47-22 at 18:03. The Bucs pushed their lead to 28 points with Randall converting on a layup and foul shot at 14:07, but UNF answered with a 10-2 run to cut the deficit down to 20. Bailey Florin's three-pointer at 10:45 capped the run as ETSU held a 58-38 lead. However, the Bucs answered with an 11-0 spurt that pushed their lead to 31 points with 5:44 to go. The Ospreys trimmed the deficit down to 28 on a Williams jumper at 3:29, but ETSU finished the game with a seven-point run.

UNF returns to action on Thursday against Mercer at UNF Arena. Game time will not be determined until after the opening round of the Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.
