TAMPA, Fla. — The University of North Florida men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 74 USF on Sunday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.

"USF played extremely well today and they will have a successful season," said head coach Mark Finnegan. "Today, we learned more about our team today and will make the corrections needed, so the mistakes don't happen again. We are working towards getting better and will have a fresh start against South Alabama."

Jack Findel-Hawkins earned the lone win for the Ospreys, downing No. 100 Sasha Gozun in three sets at No. 3 spot. Findel-Hawkins took the first set 6-4, but Gozun fought back to win the second 6-2 to force a third set. Findel-Hawkins earned a 6-5 (3) third-set victory.

The Ospreys stumbled early in doubles as USF went up 1-0 lead. Caio Gomes and Yannick Zuern fell for the first time this season, dropping a 6-1 decision to Roberto Cid and Gozun in the No. 2 spot. Norbert Nemcsek and Findel-Hawkins were then defeated by No. 16 USF's Oliver Pramming and Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz 6-2 in the No. 1 position.

USF claimed the other five singles matches. At the No. 1 position, Gomes fell to Pramming, 6-3, 6-2. Nemcsek was defeated by Cid 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 4 spot, Zuern dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Kalyuzhnyy. Finn Meinecke beat Zach Goldberg 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 5 position and Pablo Tellez succumbed to Gonzalez-Muniz 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 6 spot.

The Ospreys have a few days off before opening a three-match road trip beginning at South Alabama on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. EST/ 1 p.m. CST.
