JACKSONVILLE – The North Florida basketball team concludes its current three-game road swing Friday with the River City Rumble rematch against crosstown rival Jacksonville in Veterans Memorial Arena at 7 p.m.
The Ospreys (13-13, 7-6 ASun) claimed the first meeting of the year with the Dolphins (9-15, 5-8), 86-82, in front of a UNF Arena record crowd of 5,068. The game will again be televised live by Comcast/Charter Sports (CSS), as well as carried on the internet on ESPN3 (watchESPN.com).
In the first meeting between the rivals, UNF senior Travis Wallace dominated the paint finishing with a season best 27 points and pulling down a near program record 19 rebounds. JU owned a 50-43 halftime lead bolstered by the fast paced scoring of Jarvis Haywood, who tallied 29 points in the game including 20 in the first half.
Wallace, who played just two minutes in the Ospreys last game against FGCU after spraining his ankle, continues to lead UNF in rebounding at 7.4 per game and is second in scoring on the year with 11.6 points per game. Freshman Dallas Moore tops the squad at 12.3 ppg and chipped in 15 points including a pair of layups in the Ospreys decisive closing rally versus JU in the first meeting.
The Dolphins are led by the duo of Jarvis Haywood and Keith McDougald. Haywood is averaging 16.7 points per game and shooting 50 percent from the floor, while McDougald averages 13.1 ppg. The pair both reached the 20-point mark in the first meeting between UNF and JU with Haywood's 29 and McDougald posting a 20-point effort.
Friday's game marks the 21st all-time meeting between UNF and JU with the Dolphins holding a 15-5 advantage in the series. Four of UNF's five wins have come in the past three seasons. Eight of the past nine games have been decided by nine points or less. Two of the last three matchups at JU have come down to the final possession, both Jacksonville two-point victories.
UNF looks to rebound after a disappointing loss at FGCU last Saturday. The Ospreys are currently tied for the fourth and final hosting spot for the upcoming Atlantic Sun Conference tournament. JU enters the tilt having dropped its last two and six of its last seven beginning with their loss to the Ospreys.
Fans can also follow all the exciting action live on the radio on 1010 XL AM, The Flagship Stations of the UNF Sports Network, as well as online via the radio network link at www.1010xl.com. Real-time live stats can be found at JUDolphins.com.
Following the JU game, North Florida is slated to play its final regular season home games of the year as the Ospreys host USC Upstate (Feb. 20) and ETSU (Feb. 22).
